In addition to the Digital Negative specification, Adobe provides the free Adobe DNG Converter ( Windows® | Macintosh), which easily translates raw files from many of today’s popular cameras. And respected camera manufacturers Hasselblad, Leica, Ricoh, and Samsung have introduced cameras that provide direct DNG support. Within one year of introduction, several dozen software manufacturers such as Extensis, Canto, Apple, and iView have developed support for DNG. By addressing the lack of an open standard for the raw files created by individual camera models, DNG helps ensure that photographers will be able to access their files in the future. The solution to this growing problem? The Digital Negative (DNG), a publicly available archival format for the raw files generated by digital cameras. As a result, the use of these proprietary raw files as a long-term archival solution carries risk, and sharing these files across complex workflows is even more challenging. ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS3 RAW FILE SUPPORT UPDATE
Is it necessary to convert the files to this format to open them up in Photoshop? Or is this issue simply due to some updates not being installed properly? Hope someone can tell me if it is an update I need to download or try and convert these files to DNG format to get them working.

Why won't my Photoshop open up RAW files? I find that there is a universal RAW File format called DNG. Yet when I try to open them, Photoshop gives an error stating that they are not the right kind of documents. If you're concerned about longterm support for your raw files, you need to make your camera vendor aware of the fact. It also displays the thumbnails of the images as shown in the icon that I have attached below. I have all the updates installed and my system has Camera RAW 4. But I have not been able to open these RAW files using Photoshop yet alone editing them. I want to edit photos taken with my Canon EOS 450D camera using Photoshop CS3.
